Yuri Turchyn+GRUPO YURI, smooth jazz with a World Beat edge, blends Latin, Jazz, and Fusion sounds with intertwining instrumentals and original compositions, eliciting seductive melodies that captivate audiences from the world over.
Led by acclaimed violinist, Yuri Turchyn, who has had a highly visible career as a featured premier performer. The undulating jazz influences of his alternative rock band Now, Voyager evolved into Grupo Yuri playing the NY/NJ club circuit in 1996. After a short hiatus, a rekindled Yuri Turchyn+GRUPO YURI resurfaced in 2006 performing before enthusiastic audiences in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area including music venues– South Orange Performing Arts Center, South Orange; Burgdorff Cultural Center, Maplewood; Galeria West Art Gallery, Westfield; A-list and regional clubs– Trumpets, Montclair; Tim McLoone’s Supper Club, Asbury Park; Downtown Cafe, Red Bank; Giamano’s Jazz and Blues Club, Bradley Beach and Chico’s House of Jazz, Asbury Park and at jazz festivals– Roselle Summer Concert Series, Roselle, NJ; Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival, Point Pleasant Jazz Festival, Sweet Sounds of Downtown Jazz Series, Westfield.
Yuri Turchyn+GRUPO YURI is tight technically, releasing into the “eyes closed” improvisational sync from an impressively talented quintet– Jim Grant on bass, Al Selert on drums, Tim Boyce on guitar and Stacy Grant on table percussion– intersecting and enhancing Yuri Turchyn’s lead on electric violin.
